Nuts are one of the most commonly used fasteners. They feature internal threads that allow them to mate with the external threads of a bolt. While most nuts have an open top, however, others are closed with a dome-shaped top. Known as hex cap nuts, they offer several key benefits.
#1) Protects Bolts From Damage
Hex cap nuts protect bolts from damage. After driving a bolt through a set of parts, you can twist a hex cap nut onto the exposed end of the bolt. The nut will serve as a protective shield. It will protect the end of the bolt from bumps, abrasion, contamination and other forms of damage that could otherwise deform the bolt’s threads and make it difficult to remove.
#2) Prevent Snagging
If you’re worried about clothes or objects getting caught on the end of a bolt, you should consider using a hex cap nut. Leaving bolts exposed can be a safety hazard. A worker or bystander may unknowingly bump into the exposed end, resulting in bodily injury. A simple solution is a hex cap nut. Once installed, it will create a smooth end that prevents snagging and bodily injury.
#3) Easy to Install
Hex cap nuts are easy to install. Depending on the application, you may be able to install them by hand. Twisting a hex cap nut clockwise onto the end of a bolt will tighten it, whereas twisting a hex cap nut counterclockwise will loosen it. For applications requiring more torque, you can use a wrench. A wrench will give you better leverage so that you can tighten the hex cap nut with more force.
#4) Creates a Decorative Finish
For a more decorative finish, look no further than hex cap nuts. Exposed bolts look somewhat messy. For customer-facing environments, such as retail stores or shops, this can send the wrong message. But hex cap nuts cover the ends of bolts so that they aren’t visible. Instead, the hex cap nut will create a smooth and clean finish.
#5) Available in Low and High Styles
You can find hex cap nuts in different styles, such as low and high styles. They both feature a dome-like shape. The difference lies in their size. Low hex cap nuts are smaller and designed for use with small- and medium-sized bolts. High hex cap nuts, on the other hand, are bigger and designed for use with large-sized bolts.
